Patrick is a data analytics professional originally from Boulder, CO. He graduated from Trinity University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Analytics and Finance. In 2019, Patrick completed his Master of Science in Data Analytics from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Patrick has worked across multiple industries before joining RealWork Labs, where he currently serves as Manager of Business Intelligence.

He started his career in retail space analytics with H-E-B. In this role, he assisted in projecting and planning new store builds and remodels using predictive modeling on customer behavior data.

Subsequently, Patrick worked in software and services analytics with GoDaddy Social, where he was the owner of data and reporting for all post-sales teams on the GoDaddy Social product. He has also worked in platform and product analytics with Vrbo and Unity, where he focused on customer journey optimization based on web platform eventing and experimentation.

Outside of work, Patrick has a variety of interests. He enjoys live music, backpacking, film, and technology. He also has a fondness for capybaras and has two cats named Goblin and Gremlin.

How did you get started in this field of work?

“During my undergraduate studies, I found myself unsatisfied with either Finance or Computer Science. I had the desire to bring these two fields together in some way. Luckily, the field of Analytics was just emerging at the time and it offered a hands-on program that dealt with complex data. I decided to pursue this program during my undergrad years and continued to build on it both during my working career and in my Master’s program.

After completing my Master’s degree, I made the move into the technology industry. I was eager to work with companies that were thinking about data more deeply and leveraging it to drive innovation and growth.”

What do you like the most about the work we do here?

“What I enjoy the most is having great partnerships with my stakeholders and the engineering team. I have end-to-end ownership of the analysis and the trust that I will deliver quality work.

With domain expertise and ample resources at our disposal, we have the ability to approach business owners and plan for the future without being bogged down by technical debt or substantial process changes.”

What are you most proud of in your career so far?

“Overall, my career trajectory has allowed me to learn a lot from each of the places I have worked at: HEB, Vrbo, GoDaddy, Unity and RealWork Labs. Each of these experiences exposed me to different tech stacks and ways of thinking about information and business models. I have been able to bring these learnings with me to my current role and continue to expand my skillset. I am now excited to start building out a team and take the company into a data-driven environment from the ground up.”

What is the most interesting project you’ve worked on here at RealWork Labs?

“The Customer 360 project involves pulling together information from a variety of sources and presenting it in a digestible format for the executive and stakeholder teams. This data is essential for customer-facing purposes and serves as a great baseline for bringing together even more departmental information. By setting up this foundation, we can now take the project from data source inception to production-level access for all teams.”

“We are always trying to gain more and more insight into how our platform is driving results for our customers. One of my team’s key focus areas this year will be bringing together the information needed for our customers to see detailed results with their own eyes and know that they and RealWork Labs are working together for the health of their business. I can’t wait for all the big plans we have in the pipeline to come to fruition and for our customers to get to share in all the positive changes these improvements to our platform will bring.”

What’s one thing that surprised you about your current role?

“I am happily surprised by how data-hungry everyone is here. There are not a lot of decisions made on gut instinct alone; everyone wants data to back things up. At RealWork Labs, we are so new that no assumptions are too deeply ingrained. We are always changing and trying to find the best course of action. There is a flexibility of mindset, and people are eager to understand the product.”

What’s a fact about yourself that you think would surprise others?

“My spirit animal is the capybara, and one of the happiest times of my life was a capybara meet-and-greet. Capybaras are unshakable.”
